Countywide Physical Assessments

The HoCo by Design team has evaluated baseline conditions and emerging trends to develop a series of existing conditions assessments. These documents cover seven topics important to the general plan’s development:

Each topic is presented in a separate document that concludes with a list of observations and recommendations that should be considered when planning for the next twenty years. However, these preliminary conclusions will be reviewed and refined as new thoughts and ideas emerge from the community engagement process. Though the topics are siloed into separate documents for the purposes of the assessments, they will be woven together into larger planning themes informed by both the assessments and community input.

Route 1 Assessments

The Route 1 Corridor Master Plan was initiated to develop recommendations on revitalization strategies specific for Route 1 and was anticipated to be an amendment to the current General Plan, PlanHoward 2030. However, with the launch of HoCo By Design, the Route 1 Corridor Master Plan process is being folded into the General Plan update. This integration allows for a more comprehensive evaluation of the Route 1 corridor and an opportunity to evaluate Route 1 in countywide context. The results of the previous corridor planning efforts are being summarized in a series of subject matter assessments to inform a more comprehensive evaluation of Route 1 as part of HoCo By Design.
